Andre Kudjo Acheampong - Guitar and Vocals

A native of Jamaica, songwriter, and dynamic performer, Andre White has developed a vocal style which captures many elements of the 1970’s heyday of roots reggae in Jamaica.  With lyrical contributions that are geared toward determination, truth, and humanity, Andre Kudjo captivates his audiences with his stage presence, putting every ounce of his dimunitive stature into his singing.  Musical influences include Winston  Rodney (Burning Spear), Max Romeo, Jacob Miller, Bob Marley,  David Hinds (Steel Pulse) and many others.

After leaving his hometown of Kingston, Jamaica in 1993 to pursue a degree at St. Lawrence University.  While at Saint Lawrence Andre was an NCAA all-American soccer player and teamed up with Brendan DeMelle and Peyton Tochtermann to form Zion Express- a powerful, all-original, roots rock reggae band which performed extensively in the upstate New York college circuit.  Andre moved to Washington D.C. after obtaining his degree from Saint Lawrence and linked up with drummer Alfred Adams

Andre holds a Masters degree from Johns Hopkins University and and M.B.A. from the University of Massachusetts (Amherst).

Together with Brendan DeMelle and Alfred Adams, Andre helped form the band in 2000.
